National Internship of Communication Students


Three AB Communication third year students together with Ms. Janette Gonzales Morada, the Internship Adviser secured their ticket for a summer internship in Quezon City, Philippines last April-May 2011.



 
Marlon S. Pontillas passed his application online and fortunately, made it on the first waive of interns in Transcend Employment Agency. Mr. Pontillas played the Sales and Marketing position together with his co-intern, Charity, a Marketing Student of Miriam College. They do phone calls, get prospect companies online, and made various flyers layout.  Mr. Pontillas finished his 200 hours of training which is credited in Practicum 1 and 2 subjects for one month and ten days. Also, he received an Excellent remarks and ratings from his supervisor.




 
Jacqueline Orasa and Shiela Marie Balbuena together with Ms. Janette Morada had successfully finished their on the job trainings in National Broadcasting Network for 150 hours. Both students do a multi-functional works in media industry. The three of them were trained on how to do crawls, perform as a floor director, interviews from various TV and Government Personalities, and other media works. Still, Ms. Orasa and Ms. Balbuena have to finish 50 hours of training in Naga City. Also, all of them received exemplary ratings from their mentors.


Media and the Arts Students of USANT participate on their First Regional Congress


Students, Educators, and Media Practitioners gathered on the 1st Regional Congress of Media and Arts at Aquinas University, Legazpi City highlighting the theme “Promoting Holistic Development through Responsible Media and Art Practices”. The said congress was held on the 24th and 25th day of February, 2011.

A hundred participants confirmed on the first congress which came from Aquinas University Legazpi, Aquinas University Science High School, Bicol University-Main Campus, Divine World of College, Liceo de Masbate, University of North Eastern Philippines, and University of Saint Anthony.

USANT Delegates are all students from the College of Arts and Sciences. They are: Marlon S. Pontillas, Jacqueline T. Orasa, and Shiela Marie P. Balbuena of AB Communication and Mervin R. Diňo of AB Political Science.

International Scholars and National Media Practitioners conducted lectures from the first to last day.

On the first day, Dr. Jasmin B. Llana conducted the first talk tacking Media and the Arts as an Acts and Issues of Representation. It was followed by a talk discussing Media and Documentation of/in the Arts by Professor Richard Gough, a Professor in University of Wales, Aberystwyth, U.K.

Professor  Martin Genodepa of UP Diliman started his talk on the afternoon session emphasizing Effective Communication through Media and the Arts. A very impressive talk was delivered by Mr. Kristian Cordero, Professor in Ateneo de Naga University who delivered the talk about The Beauty of Batik and Sculpture. Lastly, Ms. Rowena Reyes gives her lecture about the Values Oriented Communication and Media Education.

Students were able to air out their queries to the speakers every after the talk. After the talk on the first day, the students were able to witness the talents of AUL on the theatrical play presented by the AUL students.

All-White Dinner Party was prepared by the organizers to the delegates for rapport building and socialization at Embarcadero de Legazpi Celebration Plaza.

On the second day, Mr. Kristian Cordero continued his talk about The Beauty of Batik and Sculpture. Also, Professor Martin Genodepa gives workshop to the students about expression and communication.

The last part of the congress was election of officers amongst the delegates who have attended. The elected leaders will be responsible of propounding the organization by providing more workshops and seminars throughout the region.
